GWO ART (Advanced Rescue Training)

The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Advanced Rescue Training (ART) course is designed for wind industry personnel who may be required to perform, assist with, or lead advanced rescue operations within a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG). The course builds on the competencies developed during GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) – Working at Heights, equipping participants with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to safely rescue an injured person from the most challenging areas of a wind turbine.

Training is delivered through a combination of classroom theory, instructor-led demonstrations and realistic, scenario-based practical exercises using industry-standard rescue equipment. Participants develop the confidence and competence to assess rescue situations, select the most appropriate rescue method, and safely manage casualties while minimising risk to both the casualty and the rescue team.

The GWO ART Standard covers advanced rescue techniques from multiple areas of a wind turbine, including:

✅ Hub, spinner and inside blade rescue

✅ Nacelle rescue

✅ Tower rescue

✅ Basement rescue

✅ Team-based advanced rescue operations

✅ Single-rescuer rescue techniques where immediate intervention is required

Throughout the course, participants will develop skills in:

✅ Advanced casualty assessment and rescue planning

✅ Selection and use of specialised rescue equipment

✅ Casualty packaging and safe patient handling

✅ Controlled lowering and raising rescue techniques

✅ Mechanical advantage systems and rope-based rescue methods

✅ Communication, teamwork and decision-making during emergency response

✅ Conducting rescues in accordance with current industry best practice

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) qualification, recorded within the GWO WINDA database and recognised throughout the global wind industry.

As an added benefit, participants training with All Areas Access will also achieve the following nationally recognised Australian units of competency:

✅ PUASAR032 – Undertake Vertical Rescue

✅ PUASAR022 – Participate in a Rescue Operation

These nationally recognised qualifications provide additional value beyond the GWO certification, demonstrating competence in advanced vertical rescue operations and enhancing employability across the broader Australian resources, construction, utilities and emergency response sectors.

GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) Refresher

The GWO ART Refresher course is designed for personnel who currently hold a valid GWO Advanced Rescue Training qualification and need to maintain their competency in accordance with GWO requirements.

The refresher course reinforces and builds upon the knowledge and practical skills gained during the initial ART programme through intensive theoretical and practical training. Rather than simply repeating the initial course, the emphasis is on maintaining operational competence, refining rescue techniques, and ensuring participants remain proficient with current industry best practices, equipment and rescue procedures.

Participants will revisit advanced rescue scenarios involving:

✅ Hub, spinner and inside blade rescue

✅ Nacelle, tower and basement rescue

✅ Single-rescuer rescue techniques

✅ Casualty management and patient handling

✅ Rescue planning, communication and dynamic risk assessment

✅ Practical rescue exercises using industry-standard rescue equipment

Successful completion renews the participant's GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) qualification within the GWO WINDA database, ensuring continued recognition by wind turbine manufacturers, owners and contractors worldwide.

At All Areas Access, participants also maintain competency against Australia's nationally recognised rescue units where applicable, providing a unique combination of internationally recognised GWO certification and Australian vocational training outcomes.
